Man arrested after pistol-whipping attack in DC

WASHINGTON, DC — A man was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly assaulting another man with a gun during a standoff in Southeast Washington.

The incident happened around 7:25 pm on the 2700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Southeast. Police said the victim reported being struck in the head multiple times with a firearm following a verbal altercation with the suspect. The suspect then threw the gun into a nearby trash can.

The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the scene by DC Fire and EMS personnel. Responding officers quickly located the suspect and recovered the discarded firearm.

David Baker, 51, who police said was of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a handgun without a license, possession of unregistered ammunition, possession of an unregistered firearm and being felon in possession of a firearm.

The investigation remains ongoing as police work to establish additional details about the altercation.
