LG junks IP varsity plan to impose a government affiliation fee. colleagues

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Saturday rejected a proposal by the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) to impose an affiliation fee on government colleges, saying the move has the potential to increase the financial burden on students, according to Raj Niwas officials.

An official said the university has proposed to amend clause 5 of its Statute 24 to levy the fee from the next academic session.

This would have inevitably led to an increase in fees for various courses, affecting students from underprivileged backgrounds who often rely on government institutions for affordable higher education, the official quoted the LG as saying.

The LG pointed out that government institutes already bear significant financial responsibilities, including the registration fee for continued affiliation, which varies according to each course and the location of an institute.
