During a court hearing Saturday in Miami-Dade County Court, the new victim asked Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Jason Emilios Dimitris for leniency, describing Beasley, now a 34-year-old father, as a “guy who stands up” who “has made a grave mistake.”

Dimitris, who usually works at the MDC Children’s Court, ordered probation services to accept the case because, although Beasley has an arrest record, he has no criminal record. In 2018, records show police officers arrested Beasley, then 28, for assault, and prosecutors dropped the case months later.

“Mr. Beasley, I’m giving you a huge, huge chance here,” Dimitris said in court. “I don’t know if I think you won’t reoffend, but I’m giving you this opportunity. I want you to go to your job. I want you to be able to support yourself the child and I want you to have no more violent contact with your wife or anyone else Do you understand?”

“Yes, sir,” said Beasley.

Inmate records show corrections officers booked Beasley shortly before 9:10 a.m. Friday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. He faced charges of child abuse without serious bodily injury, attempted threats or extortion, assault and disorderly conduct. Dimitris set his bond at $6,150.

Dimitris had one last request for Beasley before moving on to another case: “Don’t let me down!”
