Bexar County 3rd Precinct deputies kill 2 pit bulls while serving eviction papers, officials say

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – Bexar County 3rd Precinct deputies shot and killed two dogs during an evacuation call at a north side apartment complex, county officials said.

Deputies were serving a warrant in the 1200 block of Patricia Drive at the Tuscany Park apartments Monday morning, the final step in the eviction process, according to the 3rd Precinct Police Office.

The man deputies were serving had barricaded himself in his apartment when they arrived, officials said.

When backup arrived, deputies worked to enter the apartment with a battering ram. The 3rd Precinct Police Office said the man let go of two pit bulls and escaped onto the second floor balcony.

Both dogs attacked the deputies and attempted to stun them with a Taser. The dogs were subdued for a few seconds but managed to break free.

A dog let go of the deputy and tried to attack the officer with the battering ram. The 3rd Precinct Police Office said they had to use deadly force.

One dog was shot in the neck and the other in the back of the head. Both were killed, the 3rd Precinct Police Bureau said.

Deputies told KSAT it could take up to 48 hours for Animal Services to remove the animals.

The man who escaped has not yet been found. He could face an obstruction or obstruction charge, according to the sheriff’s office.
