Potter County jury finds him guilty of murder, aggravated assault in 2021 shooting

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – A Potter County jury has found a man guilty of murder and multiple counts of aggravated assault following a drive through filming back in September 2021.

Officials say David Lee Winfield has been charged with shooting and killing 62-year-old Laura Etta Ashley on September 6, 2021.

In addition to the murder charge, Winfield was also charged with four counts of aggravated assault after multiple shootings in the Eastridge area on September 6, 2021.

Officials say on the night of the shootings, officers found Ashley dead in her vehicle after she was shot while driving east on NW 15th Avenue.

Winfield pleaded not guilty to all charges.

A jury found Winfield guilty of Ashley’s murder and all four counts of aggravated assault on Monday.

The next phase of the trial will begin on January 6.
