CPI(M) MLA’s son among 9 arrested for possession of ganja, lawmaker denies allegations | Latest news India

CPI(M) MP U Pratibha denied reports that her son was arrested with ganja on Saturday after excise department officials arrested nine people for possession of narcotics.

Her son also denied the allegations on social media.

The Kayamkulam MP in a Facebook live claimed that her son was questioned only when he was hanging out with his friends, adding that the media is haunting her.

“Since the news broke, I’ve had a lot of phone calls,” she said.

“When my son and friends were sitting together, excise officers came and asked questions, but word came that my son was caught with ganja,” she said.

“If the news is true, I will apologize. If not, the media should apologize publicly,” the deputy added.

The Excise Department said they have arrested nine people, including the son of CPI(M) MLA U Prathibha, with ganja from Thakazhi in Kuttanad in Alappuzha district.

All nine have been released on bail, according to officers.

“We have seized ganja from a member of the group under the Thakazhi bridge. They were arrested for smoking and possession of weed. As it was a small quantity, they were all released on bail,” an excise officer added.

A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
