The Springfield Chamber Players will open a new season this weekend

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – On Saturday, the Springfield Chamber Players kick off their new season with a special performance.

“We’re promoting the music the same way the orchestra is, but in our own way, and we’re offering these intimate kinds of concerts that the orchestra would never produce,” said Miho Matsuno, violinist with the Springfield Chamber Players.

The Springfield Chamber Players will begin their 2024-2025 season with a performance of their clarinet quintet. The program will feature works by several famous musicians, including Duke Ellington, Bernard Herrmann and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

“There’s a tonality, there’s a lyricism to that music, that really fits this combination of wind strings,” said Chris Cullen, who plays with the Springfield Chamber Players.

Matsuno and Cullen explained why this upcoming performance stands out from previous shows.

“When you think of chamber music, you think of a string quartet or a piano trio, not really a combination of wind and strings, so it’s very special what we’re doing,” noted Matsuno.

Mark Auerbach, director of public relations for the Springfield Chamber Players, explained that chamber players offer different experiences than most other concerts in our area. “The Springfield Chamber Players offer music that you don’t get to see in many venues around here. The Springfield Symphony has 50 to 75 musicians for a concert, but here, you can stand up close and watch them play their instruments, watch their facial expressions,” he said.

Saturday’s opening is a show the whole family can enjoy.

“This is a very, very friendly program for all ages and all kinds of people, and I think it’s extremely enjoyable and enjoyable,” Matsuno said.
