Israel is bombing Iran

Israel bombed Iran, several news outlets reported Friday evening, as several explosions were heard in and near the capital Tehran.

Trey Yingst of Fox News was the first reporter for a major US cable news outlet to report on the air strikes.

“It appears at this time that the Israeli attack against Iran is underway,” he said while reporting from Israel. Yingst said he spoke with a senior Israeli official about the attack.

“This strike, according to this senior official, was intended to send a message of deterrence to the Iranian regime, and there was prior communication with the Americans as the region waits to see what comes next,” he said. “But again, the latest information we have, multiple explosions have been reported in and around the Iranian capital Tehran, as well as in the northern part of Iran.”

Israel has expanded its offensive in recent weeks, invading southern Lebanon to attack Hezbollah, an Iranian proxy in the region. The incursion came about a year after Israel invaded Gaza after Hamas launched the October 7 terror attacks inside Israel last year.

It is unclear whether the United States played any role in the attacks.

Despite the aforementioned senior official’s comment that the strikes were “a message of deterrence,” other Israeli and American officials told Axios that they anticipate Iran will respond militarily.

“U.S. and Israeli officials believe Iran will respond militarily, but hope it will be limited and allow the two adversaries to break the tit-for-tat cycle,” Axios. reported.

IRAN launch a series of rockets into Israel earlier this month, which were largely thwarted by Israel’s Iron Dome. In April, Israel bombarded the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria, killing several senior officials. Israel also carried out an air strike on Tehran in July, killing Hamas official Ismail Haniyeh.

This is a developing story.
