Shoplifting is the act of taking merchandise from a store without paying for it. It involves hiding items, usually with the intention of leaving the store undetected. It is considered a form of theft and can lead to legal consequences, such as fines or even jail time, depending on the value of the stolen items and local laws.

Recently, a 23-year-old man identified as Jhon Rey Marcellana Hernal was apprehended for attempting to shoplift pork and chicken worth over ₱7,000 in a mall in Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City. The incident occurred on October 23, 2024.

Hernal was caught by mall security after trying to leave without paying. The incident is attracting attention because of the large amount of meat involved.

According to reports, Hernal, who is currently unemployed and a high school graduate, packed several kilograms of pork and chicken in eco-friendly bags. After collecting the items, he bypassed the checkout counters, heading for the store’s exit.

Mall security noticed his actions and detained him before he could leave the premises. Hernal was then handed over to local authorities for further investigation and processing.
