Mumbai woman forced to strip loses Rs 1.7 lakh in digital arrest scam – Mumbai News

A 26-year-old Mumbai woman was forced to strip during a video call and extorted Rs 1.7 lakh by fraudsters posing as Delhi Police officials in another digital arrest scam case.

The victim, a resident of Borivali East, was contacted by fraudsters on November 19 and accused of involvement in a money laundering case linked to businessman Naresh Goyal.

They threatened the woman, an employee of a pharmaceutical company, with arrest and forced her to book a hotel room to be interviewed during a video call.

During the video call they tricked her into sending Rs 1,78,000 for bank account verification. In addition, they instructed them to remove all their clothes for a body check.

The woman, realizing the fraud, filed an FIR on November 28 and the Mumbai police registered a case of extortion and harassment under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the IT Act.

Police are trying to track down the unidentified suspects, officials said.
