Trader Gohana Gets Ransom Call For Rs 2 Cr; the police arrest 1 after the meeting

After an encounter at Narwana in Jind district on Friday evening, the Sonepat police managed to arrest an accused who, along with his associates, had demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crore from a Gohana businessman.

The miscreants came in a car to Vishwakarma Chowk in Narwana town to collect money from the businessman. The arrested accused has been identified as Yughwinder of Sai Colony in Cheeka in Kaithal district.

According to the police, the businessman, in his complaint to the Gohana city police, stated that he received a Whatsapp call on his mobile phone on November 23, in which the callers demanded Rs 2 million. The callers threatened to kill him and his family if he did not comply. Following the complaint, the police registered a case and started an investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, the miscreants called him to Vishwakarma Chowk to give them the money.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Narender Kadyan has constituted six teams to crack the case and find the accused involved in the crime.

Following a tip-off, Inspector Virender Singh, Incharge, Crime Unit, Gohana along with his team also reached Vishwakarma Chowk.

When the miscreants saw the police vehicle, they started firing at the police team. In retaliation, the police team also opened fire on them. The miscreants left their car near the office of the power corporation and two miscreants fled to a forest area under the cover of darkness.

The police team has launched a search operation to nab the accused. The police arrested Yughwinder and recovered the criminals’ car, a country-made pistol, a foreign-made pistol, three live cartridges, a sword and mobile phones from the car.
