Las Vegas police search for suspect in officer-involved shooting

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KOLO) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is searching for a suspect involved in an officer-involved shooting Friday.

Police said Jaime Mendoza, 54, should be considered armed and dangerous. Mendoza may also be injured.

It started Friday around 10:26 p.m. when police found a vehicle in east Las Vegtas involved in what they described as a violent crime. The car sped off and police initially gave chase but lost sight of the vehicle.

Police then found the vehicle again about 6 miles west near Las Vegas Boulevard driving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle crashed and police said Mendoza ran from the vehicle. The police chased him.

“While in pursuit, the suspect fired at the officers, causing one officer to discharge his firearm,” police said. Mendoza escaped, police said. It is unclear whether the officer’s bullet struck Mendoza.

Anyone who knows his whereabouts or has information about him is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
