Alabama’s top high school DB prospect is decommitting from Central Florida

One of the state’s top running backs will reopen his recruitment after news broke of Gus Malzahn’s resignation as Central Florida’s head coach.

Jackson High School defensive back Jamarrion Gordon has decommitted from UCF and reopened his recruitment, he announced on social media Saturday.

The news comes shortly after reports of Malzahn leaving his position as the program’s head coach to become the offensive coordinator at Florida State.

Gordon announced his commitment to the program in July, swapping his original commitment to Alabama.

The 4-star defensive back is the state of Alabama’s 11th-ranked 2026 player, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, and is the 22nd-ranked safety in the 2026 class.

He is the second UCF commit to reopen the recruiting process, joining Northside (Ga.) High School offensive tackle Chastan Brown; Vestavia Hills kicker Owen Simpson committed to the program on Friday.

In Friday’s Class 4A semifinal against St. Michael, the defensive back had an interception and added two catches for 55 yards at receiver.

Jackson will play Cherokee County in the Class 4A state championship game on Friday with kickoff set for 11 a.m.
