A resident of the area, Christina Anthony, disclosed to Premium Times in a telephone interview that the conflict started on Monday, December 9, when a group of herdsmen robbed a Kalindi resident who was riding a motorcycle to him. farm.

“The herdsmen attacked the man and stole his motorcycle. After returning home, he shared his harrowing experience with the youth of the community.

“A group of locals chased the shepherds and recovered the stolen bicycle. However, the situation escalated dramatically when the herdsmen returned on Wednesday and attacked the villagers,” she said.

The deaths recorded in the herdsmen-farmers confrontation

Another resident, Adams Mailaka, had this to say reporter that Wednesday’s violence started in Powushi before spreading to Kalindi, resulting in the death of two people.

According to the resident, the deceased victims named Yusuf Akwara were 35 years old and a 30-year-old man simply called Gad.

Speaking further, Mr Mailaka said many residents fled Powushi and Kalindi to seek refuge in nearby villages as fear and uncertainty gripped the area.

Meanwhile, at the time of completing this report, Ahmed Sanda, the divisional police officer (DPO) in charge of Billiri LGA, declined to comment on the attack.
