Plan for five-storey block of flats in Sheffield rejected

Plan for five-storey block of flats in Sheffield rejected

Initial plans called for 67 new flats to be built on the site, but the scheme has been reduced in size.

The council received 42 objections to the application and a petition against the proposals was signed by 108 people, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Tuesday’s planning meeting heard the council had expected the developer to offer a flat under the government’s First Homes discount scheme for first-time buyers.

They were also asked to contribute £530,555 towards providing affordable housing elsewhere in the city.

But a PTA Developments agent said the company could not afford to meet those obligations.

Councilors unanimously rejected the request.
