Detroit rapper faces extradition to New Jersey for ‘terrorist threats’

A Detroit-area rapper is facing extradition to New Jersey on charges he made “terroristic threats” at a business there.

Marc Smith, 32, also known as Cash Kidd, appeared Dec. 6 in Macomb County Circuit Court, according to online court records. There, Judge James M. Biernat Jr. scheduled an extradition hearing for 9:30 a.m. Dec. 20 and set Smith’s bail at $300,000.

Lauren Farinas, spokeswoman for the Union County, NJ, prosecutor’s office said Smith is accused of making terroristic threats of violence on Sept. 17 while at a business in the 600 block of Chestnut Street in Union, New Jersey. Union is about seven miles southwest of Newark.

If convicted, Smith could spend up to five years in prison, Farinas said.

Cash Kidd’s YouTube page has 160,000 subscribers. He has posted 181 videos, including his latest release, “Toxic Blessing,” which has garnered 165,000 views since it was released on September 6.

His most popular YouTube videos are for “See You” (2020) with over 13 million views, “Kiddnapper” (2020) with 6.3 million views, and “Who Shot You?” (2019) with 5.9 million views.

On Spotify, Cash Kidd has over 1.1 million listeners and 152,810 followers. The most played solo song is “Who Shot You?” with over 8 million games. He also appears on “GEEKALEEK”, a song by OHGEESY that has garnered over 78 million streams.

Cash Kidd’s Spotify profile lists him as representing the 6 Mile area and cites Lil Wayne as an influence.

The New Jersey charges against him were brought in Macomb County Circuit Court after Smith was charged with speeding on Nov. 30 in Center Line. Online records for Warren’s 37th District Court indicate that Smith was driving no more than five miles per hour over the speed limit when he was pulled over.

A preliminary hearing in this case is scheduled for January 29, 2025 at 8:45 AM.

Smith also has an open 37th District Court case from 2020, when he was charged by Warren police with reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.

A spokesman for the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office declined to comment on the cases against Smith Thursday night.

An attorney listed as Smith’s attorney in the 2020 case did not immediately return a call seeking comment. It’s unclear if the same attorney is representing Smith in the speeding case or the New Jersey case.
