Thieves steal ,000 worth of carbon gold from mine

A BINDURA mine is counting losses after an eight-man gang swooped in before stealing 550kg of gold-bearing carbon worth $36,000 last Sunday.

The attackers initially attacked a security guard on duty before breaking into a carbon chamber.

In a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police National Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident which took place on Unity Day.

“The ZRP is investigating a case of robbery that took place at a mine in Bindura on December 22, 2024.

“Eight unidentified suspects, who were armed with a rifle, stones and logs, attacked a security guard on duty before breaking into a carbon chamber where they stole 11 X 50 kg of gold-pregnant carbon worth $36,000.

“Anyone with information that could assist in the investigations should contact the nearest police station,” Nyathi said.

Police have launched a manhunt for the thieves and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Meanwhile, Harare police are also investigating a robbery case that took place at Kamunhu Shopping Center in Mabvuku suburb on December 20, 2024.

Three robbers wearing protective masks and armed with handguns stormed a money agency and fired two shots into the air as they demanded cash from the teller.

The robbers stole 1,500 dollars and 20,000 lei and left in a Toyota Sienta Silver without license plates.
