National parties have over 63% of the vote share in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls

New Delhi:

The six national parties polled over 63% of the total valid votes polled in this year’s Lok Sabha elections.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and National People’s Party (NPP) are the six national parties.

Besides the six recognized national parties, 47 recognized state parties and 690 registered, unrecognized political parties contested the parliamentary polls, according to statistics released by the Electoral Commission (EC) on Thursday.

According to the data, 3,921 independent candidates participated, but only seven of them were elected.

Additionally, 3,905 independent candidates have waived their deposits. Their vote share was 2.79% of the total valid votes.

Of the 3,921 independent candidates, 279 were women, the EC noted.

None of the above (NOTA) got 63,71,839 or 0.99% of the votes in 2024, compared to 1.06% in 2019.

More than 97.97 million citizens registered as voters, compared to more than 91.19 million in 2019 — an increase of 7.43 percent.

Of those registered voters, 64.64 million voted in 2024, compared to 61.4 million in 2019, the EC said.

According to the poll panel, any Indian citizen who enrolls in the electoral roll is defined as a voter. The voter who finally votes is called the voter.
