CPN-UML takes action against three members – The Himalayan Times – Nepal’s No.1 English Daily Newspaper

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 25

CPN-UML, the second largest party in parliament, took action against three of its members.

The secretariat meeting on Wednesday suspended standing committee member Binda Pandey and central member Usha Kiran Timilsina from the party for six months, while a leader announced that former vice-president Bhim Rawal would be removed from his post, losing his even regular membership.

Pandey and Timilsina disagreed with the CPN-UML over accepting a land donation from businessman Min Bahadur Gurung to build a party office. For this reason, the party had asked them for an explanation. Action was taken against them after their responses were deemed ‘unsatisfactory’.

Meanwhile, Rawal had earlier protested against the decision to take over the central office building from businessman Gurung. UML asked for an explanation from Rawal, member of the standing committee Dr. Binda Pandey and Central Member Usha Kiran Timilsina.

Even as Pandey and Timilsina offered an explanation, Rawal did not respond. However, at the secretariat meeting on Wednesday, the UML decided to release Pandey and Timalsina, who wrote the explanation letter, from assignments for six months and Rawal permanently.

According to Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, the decision was taken to withdraw former Vice President Rawal from the organized membership as he had consistently made statements that would undermine the party.

“Rawal ran for the position of president in the general convention after declining the nomination for the vice presidency. After not becoming a central member, he continued to serve as an advisor within our legal system,” Gyawali said.

“He also failed to fulfill his responsibilities as an adviser. And because the statements were made with the intention of continually weakening rather than strengthening the party, it was decided to remove him from organized membership,” he said. he added.

After the UML stripped him of membership, Rawal told mediapersons, “this action against me is the result of Oli’s autocratic, arbitrary and dictatorial mentality. Oli has long opposed the decisions, values and beliefs of the Communist Party.”

Rawal claimed that Oli betrayed the communist and multi-party democratic ideologies.
