Gurugram police nab drug racket, two including Thai national arrested

The suspects have been identified as Rahul Singh, 28, who is from Gurdaspur, and Jirapurn Laoklang, 44, who is from Thailand.

An inter-state drug smuggling racket was busted after its two members, including a man from Punjab and a woman from Thailand, were caught with synthetic drugs from Chakkarpur in Sector 28 Gurugram, police said on Thursday.

They said the suspects were identified as Rahul Singh, 28, who is from Gurdaspur, and Jirapurn Laoklang, 44, from Thailand, who lived in Chakkarpur. Police said 11.8 grams of MDMA, also known as ecstasy pills, were recovered from Singh and Laoklang.

According to the police, Singh was arrested on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in an inter-state drug smuggling racket. Based on the information shared by him, Laoklang was arrested on Wednesday evening.

Gurugram Police Public Relations Officer Sandeep Kumar said the crime branch received information about the inter-state drug smuggling activity after which the raids were conducted.

“Laoklang procured the drugs from other foreign nationals in Delhi. He used to bring them to the city to further distribute them to other smugglers here. Singh used to procure medicines from Laoklang and take them to suppliers in Punjab,” he said.

He said the woman came to India in 2020 and was staying here illegally as her passport and visa had expired. “She was involved in drug trafficking for the past 1.5 years and also worked in a spa in the city,” he said.

Investigators said additional raids were underway to catch other suspected gang members who used to supply drugs to Laoklang and those who received batches of MDMA from the pair.

Based on a complaint by a crime branch official, an FIR was registered against the two under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the DLF police station in Sector 29 on Wednesday. Cops said the woman in the FIR was the Aliens Law is also involved.
