Teen shot during late-night gathering at downtown Fort Lauderdale club

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A 14-year-old boy was injured early Thursday morning when gunfire erupted in downtown Fort Lauderdale, police said.

Police said officers responded to a shooting near the city’s entertainment district, where a large crowd of teenagers had gathered following a teen-focused event at Club Eurolocated at 120 Nugent Ave.

Police said someone in the crowd opened fire, with at least one bullet hitting the teenager.

Authorities said medics rushed the teenager to Broward Health Medical Center, where he is expected to survive. The identity of the shooter remains unknown.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue transported the victim to Broward Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Damian Elliston, a nearby resident, expressed concern over the incident.

“It’s definitely scary, you know, it’s scary to find out it’s happening so close,” Elliston said.

He added: “Things can definitely happen at the drop of a dime and you never know, you never know what kind of day someone is having.”

Authorities said no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting and the investigation remains active.
