Berrien Springs Public Schools joins national lawsuit against social media companies

BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. (WNDU) – The Berrien Springs School Board has approved a resolution to join a nationwide class action lawsuit against social media companies.

According to our reporting partners at Herald-Palladiumthe move was authorized by Inspector Thomas Bruce.

The suit is based in California and includes Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and other social media platforms.

Board President Paul Toliver says there is no cost to the district if the lawsuit is dismissed.

Toliver is also the police chief for Berrien Springs-Oronoko Township and said he has seen the problems caused by social media as the top cop in the area.

“We’re doing this because it’s a national issue,” Toliver told The Herald-Palladium. “We frequently see issues where kids are drawn to lots of different things on social media. Then, in situations where we’re looking for a child, these companies can put up a big wall.”
