The names Mukesh and Anil Ambani often dominate the conversation when talking about the Ambani family. However, they have two lesser-known sisters, Nina Kothari and Deepti Salgaoncar. This article focuses on Deepti Salgaoncar, the youngest child of the late Dhirubhai Ambani and the sister of Mukesh and Nita Ambani.

Deepti was born on 23 January 1962 and pursued a law degree at VM Salgaocar College of Law. She currently resides in Goa. Deepti is married to Dattaraj Salgaocar, a businessman and childhood friend of Mukesh and Anil Ambani. The couple has two children: a son named Vikram and a daughter named Isheta.

In 1978, Dhirubhai Ambani’s family lived on the 22nd floor of Usha Kiran, Mumbai’s only skyscraper at the time, while the Salgaonkar family lived on the 14th floor. The friendship between Dhirubhai and Vasudev Salgaoncar, who headed the Salgaoncar family, was strong because of their similar backgrounds. After Vasudev’s passing, Dhirubhai took on a mentoring role for Dattaraj.

As both families interacted frequently, Deepti and Dattaraj met often and quickly fell in love. After five years of courtship, they got married on 31 December 1983 and started their life together in Goa. Dattaraj founded Sunaparanta, an institution aimed at preserving the culture and heritage of Goa, where Deepti is the vice-president and member of the advisory board.

Deepti’s life also intersected with notable events; her daughter Isheta was previously married to Neeshal Modi, the younger brother of controversial businessman Nirav Modi. Although this connection linked Deepti’s family to a significant financial scandal, Isheta later divorced Neeshal and found love with Atulya Mittal, founder of Nexzu Mobility and nephew of business tycoon Lakshmi Niwas Mittal.
