The man ‘who tried to rob the shop and set it on fire’ appears in court

A man who allegedly tried to rob a shop and then doused the premises with ammonia in an attempt to set it on fire has appeared in court.

Dean Jones is alleged to have carried out the attack at a shop on Main Street in Condorrat, Cumbernauld, at around 11.20am on Monday, December 23.

The 35-year-old then tried to set fire to the store by throwing cleaning fluid containing ammonia onto the floor.

He was detained by the police and charged with assault and robbery, culpable and reckless behavior and assaulting an officer.

He appeared at Airdrie Sherriff Court on Christmas Eve and did not enter a plea.

He was hospitalized for further examination and remanded in custody.

Jones is due in court within eight days.
