Man destroys guns after school shooting

MADISON, Wis. (WISC) – A Wisconsin man is showing that actions speak louder than words in the wake of a school shooting in Madison.

Jeff Wild was among several others who showed up outside the Midvale Community Lutheran Church Monday afternoon to destroy their firearms.

In total, Wild had eight weapons destroyed, including six handguns, a rifle and a shotgun.

The action came just a week after a student at Abundant Life Christian School brought two guns to campus and allegedly killed a teacher and a fellow student.

Wild said the weapons were handed to him on Friday with the intention of being destroyed.

All measures were taken to help prevent further gun violence.

“We need to move forward by actually taking action to reduce gun violence in our communities,” Wild said.

Wild said the action he took is a step in the right direction.

He said he had taken similar actions in the past. He also said that destruction is only part of getting weapons out of the hands of people who seek to harm themselves or others.

Wild said he encourages faith-based communities, local leaders and others to take similar actions to reduce gun violence.
