An 18-year-old Millcreek Township man faces vehicular assault and other charges after township police accused him of hitting a pedestrian in an east side neighborhood on Dec. 22.

Dominic M. Berarducci is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 13 for his preliminary hearing on the charges, including felonies of aggravated vehicular assault and aggravated vehicular assault while driving under the influence, according to information on his criminal record. Berarducci was arraigned on December 22 and is free after posting bail.

An attorney for Berarducci was not placed on his criminal record Friday.

Berarducci is accused of hitting a 19-year-old pedestrian with his car in the 600 block of East 23rd Street shortly before 4 a.m. on Dec. 22. Officers who responded to the crash were told the driver of the car fled the area and Berarducci. was located in the 700 block of East 23rd Street, according to information in Berarducci’s criminal complaint.

The officer who filed the charges against Berarducci wrote in the probable cause complaint affidavit that a witness who had video reported seeing Berarducci driving west on East 23rd Street and saw the pedestrian on the hood of the vehicle. The car then stopped and the pedestrian was thrown from the hood, hitting his head on the roadway, according to the affidavit.

The officer wrote that Berarducci got out of the vehicle and tried to pick up the pedestrian, then got them up before the pedestrian fell backwards and hit his head on the pavement. Berarducci then fled the area, according to police.

The pedestrian was taken to UPMC Hamot and suffered injuries including a fractured skull and internal cranial bleeding, according to information in the affidavit. Updates on the man’s condition were not available Friday.
