Man arrested after  million in drugs recovered during traffic stop in Mississippi

TUPELO, Miss (WTVA) – A man was arrested after a traffic stop in Pontotoc County, Mississippi led to the seizure of 600 pounds of drugs worth more than $1 million.

It happened Sunday night on Interstate 22, the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Department said.

WTVA News reported that law enforcement stopped a van for a traffic violation and found marijuana and other narcotics.

Pontotoc County Sheriff Leo Mask identified the suspect as Almas Bekzhanov, 39, of Kazakhstan, whom investigators charged with trafficking in controlled substances.

The sheriff said Bekzhanov was in the country illegally, and the sheriff’s department notified US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
