A stressed businessman kills his wife, four-year-old son | Surat News

Surat: Residents of Rajhans Swapna Complex in Sarthana area were horrified to wake up on Friday to a brutal stabbing by a 35-year-old businessman that claimed the lives of his wife and four-year-old son. Businessman Smit Jivani seriously injured his elderly parents before attempting to take his own life.
Jivani stabbed his wife Hiral (32) and their son Chahit before turning on his father Labhu, 60, and mother Vilas (53). Following the attack, he attempted suicide by slitting his throat and wrists.
While Hiral and Chahit died on the spot, Jivani and his parents were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital. The condition of the elderly couple is said to be critical, but Jivani’s injuries are not serious, police said.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Jivani was deeply disturbed after some close relatives severed ties with him and his family days before the incident. The police also found that he had huge debts and is suspected of having suffered losses on the stock market.
The Jivani family, originally from Savarkundla town in Amreli district, lived on the eighth floor of Surya Tower in Rajhans Swapna Complex for many years.
The tragedy unfolded around 9am when a profusely bleeding Vilas managed to escape from the flat and screamed for help. Her cries alerted the neighbors, who immediately called an ambulance and notified the police. Sources said Jivani first cut the throat of his sleeping son. When his wife woke up he also targeted her and later attacked his parents who tried to stop him.
According to police, Vilas was conscious when she was taken to the hospital and provided details of the events leading up to the attack. She told the police that her husband’s elder brother Labhu had died five days ago. The Jivani family had even visited the grieving family several times. However, during a visit, a relative told Jivani to stay away and stated that they did not want to have any further relations with him.
A senior police officer said Vilas narrated how Jivani kept repeating harsh words of rejection while attacking her, lamenting that he was now alone and no one wanted to maintain ties with him.
Jiyani has been booked for murder, attempt to murder and other sections of the NBS.
