Penticton businessman accused of sexual assault | News

A Penticton businessman and community booster is facing sexual assault charges dating back to an alleged incident earlier this year.

Penticton RCMP have confirmed that Darrell John Richards of Penticton has been arrested and charged with sexual assault that is alleged to have occurred on March 9, 2024 in or around Penticton.

Richards’ name was initially protected by a publication ban, but it was lifted on Dec. 12 at a request by Crown counsel Laura McPheeters and approved by Judge Greg Koturbash.

Additional details about the incident and the name of the victim may not be released.

The charge against Richards has not been proven in court and a person is innocent until proven guilty.

According to his social media bio, Richards owns Sinster Speed ​​Co. specializing in aftermarket Harley Davidson suspension, motorcycle camping and lifestyle apparel.

He was the master of ceremonies for the 2023 Penticton and Wine Country Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards, donating his presenter fee to charity. He was also a long-time supporter of the Feedway Foundation and other causes.

According to court records, Richards is due back in a Penticton courtroom on Feb. 4.
