South Korea plane crash: At least 174 dead and more presumed dead | World News

The cause of the crash “is believed to have been a bird strike,” one of the two rescued crew members told local media – as the confirmed death toll rose to 167.

“Smoke came out of one of the engines and then it exploded,” Ms Ku, a 20-year-old flight attendant, told Yonhap news agency.

Another survivor, flight attendant Mr Lee, 33, said he did not remember the circumstances of the crash.

When he was checked over by a doctor at the hospital, he reportedly asked, “Why did I end up here?”

He added: “I was wearing my seat belt before landing and it looked like the plane landed, but I don’t remember anything after that.”

He suffered a fractured left shoulder and head injuries, according to Aju Business Daily.

Both survivors are hospitalized and receiving treatment.
