Family disputes claim of suicide in death of stranger in Colpetty – Hiru News

The family of a 51-year-old Australian national who died after falling from the 7th floor of a hotel in Kollupitiya claims his death was not a suicide, contradicting earlier reports.

Speaking at a press conference in Colombo, the deceased’s sister and two brothers urged the Sri Lankan government to ensure justice in the case, saying their relative’s death was a crime.

The incident happened on the 6th, with police initially reporting that the man, who was said to be suffering from a mental illness, jumped to his death despite attempts by police to stop him.

The family, however, said their investigations in Sri Lanka in recent days had not revealed any reason for him to have taken his own life. They called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances in which he died.
