Teens sell fireworks to raise money for summer camp

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) – Youth at Vintage Church are selling fireworks from a TNT Fireworks booth, with a portion of the proceeds funding the church’s annual summer camp fees.

Vintage Church youth have been selling fireworks since December 20th. Church youth Halea Vega said she may not be able to attend the church’s annual summer camp this year without the opportunity to raise money by working at the fireworks stand.

“I went last year so I think this fireworks stand really helps because last year it was really hard for me to think about going because we don’t necessarily have the funds,” Vega said. “So I feel like these types of fundraisers really help students like me go.”

Volunteers up to 12 years old work at the stand. Vintage Church student leader Dajarie Nora said the youth will learn skills that will serve them well in adulthood.

“Summer camp is going to be gone,” Nora said, “It’s going to be a good memory. But another memory they’ll have when they get older is working a shift like this.”

Vega said the job gave her more than a summer camp discount.

“This helps a lot because it doesn’t necessarily just help with the funds,” Vega said, “it also helps bond between friends. So there are a lot of nice things. And you can really have fun and not have to be stressed or anything because it’s not a stressful environment.”

Vintage Church Youth will be selling fireworks at American Fireworks in Killeen through December 31st.
