Dr. Michael Roizen, a prominent health expert who claims to have reduced his biological age by 20 years, has shared tips for living longer. The 78-year-old Cleveland Clinic Chief Wellness Officer says he has successfully reversed his biological age by incorporating six essential lifestyle practices. According to him, his biological age is now only 57.6 years.

While speaking with Business Insider, the renowned author and longevity expert shared his strategies for maintaining health and fitness amid a busy schedule. Let’s see what he does to reverse his age.

Daily steps to health

First, Roizen stresses the importance of incorporating more movement into your daily routines. He recommends taking at least 10,000 steps each day. To achieve this, Roizen uses various strategies, such as parking far from his office and walking the rest of the way, as well as using a treadmill desk at work. This helps him stay active and reach his step goal even on busy days. Research shows that just 30 minutes of brisk walking five days a week can significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes, improve mental well-being and increase lifespan.

Add avocado, salmon and olive oil to your diet

Another thing Roizen recommends for longevity is eating avocados, salmon and olive oil. He claimed that eating just these three foods would have significant health benefits. These foods are said to be linked to a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease.

Play processing speed games

Next come the brain training games for processing speed. Roizen advocated these games because he believed that processing speed gaming can improve cognitive health. He specifically recommended Double Decision and Freeze Frame, which studies suggest could reduce the risk of dementia and improve brain speed.

Referring to a 2017 study published in Alzheimer & Dementia, Roizen said older adults who completed ten sessions of such games over six weeks, followed by booster sessions at 11 and 35 months, had a 29% lower risk of dementia after 10 years. He advised that playing these games for at least two hours a week for five weeks will help people get the desired results.

You have strong relationships

Another essential factor in increasing health and longevity is cultivating friendships. Roizen emphasized that it is a fun way to improve well-being and emphasized the importance of shared activities.

Take a multivitamin shot

While research on multivitamins and longevity remains inconclusive, Roizen cited studies that suggest taking multivitamins for years can reduce the risks of cancer, cardiovascular disease and dementia. Despite the conflicting findings, Roizen says he takes multivitamins to keep vitamin levels stable in his body. However, it is important to note that the US Preventive Services Task Force does not recommend multivitamins for the general public due to insufficient evidence to support their benefits.

Flu vaccines

Finally, Roizen suggested getting the flu shot for the potential benefits of healthy aging. Beyond flu prevention, he pointed out that a 2022 review published in Aging Research Reviews suggested that vaccinating older people against the flu could reduce the risk of dementia by decreasing brain inflammation.

Meanwhile, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone six months of age and older get a flu shot each season, emphasizing their importance to public health.
