TG-NAB steps up anti-narcotics drive in Telangana

Hyderabad: With just a day left for the New Year festivities, special teams comprising the TG Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TG-NAB), law and order and excise teams have been deployed in 159 identified ‘hot spots’ in the state.

Joint teams have intensified searches, especially in Hyderabad’s western area, which has nearly 80 pubs.
“We have been instructed by police commissioner CV Anand to continue late-night checks and monitor pubs, establishments and suspected drug traffickers and users,” Banjara Hills station officer KM Raghavendra said.

Another 20 TGNAB teams with drug detection kits were deployed. “We will subject the suspects to narco-tests. We have women officers to take female suspects for testing,” said DSP Krishna Murthy’s office.
“We have intensified checks from 10 pm to 2 am and a relief team will be in operation from 3 am to 4 am,” said SHO Raghavendra.

A senior police official said IT teams are monitoring the city through CCTV cameras.

“Our teams are targeting hotspots which include railway stations, district bus stations and border check posts,” said VB Kamalasan Reddy, director of TG Excise and Enforcement, adding that “severe action will be taken against anyone found smuggling, carrying. , providing or consuming NDPS drugs.”
