Rims to recruit 145 faculty members from various departments

Ranchi: In a move to strengthen its medical assistance servicesTHE Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) will recruit 145 faculty members to fill gaps in its academic and clinical wings.
The largest government-run state medical faculty hospital will recruit 43 professors in key departments such as anatomy, physiology, surgery and specialist areas such as CTVS (cardiothoracic vascular surgery), oncology and plastic surgery.
In addition, nine assistant professor positions will be filled in neonatology, neurology and critical care. For associate professors, 56 jobs are advertised in disciplines including pathology, gynecology and anaesthesia. In addition, 37 assistant professor positions are offered in fields such as medicine, surgery, cardiology and trauma orthopedics.
The last date for applications was December 21. A Rims official said: “Efforts are expected to renew staff following the retirement of more than 25 senior faculty members over the past two years, leaving only 160 doctors in 30 departments.”
Director Rims, dr. Raj Kumar, said, “To address these gaps, the health department is planning to release the vacancies for nursing and support staff in January. Positions for lab technicians, x-ray technicians, ward boys and cleaning staff will be included. These steps are expected to ease operational pressure on rims.”
Apart from recruiting teaching staff, Rims is also addressing critical shortages of medical and support staff. Against the sanctioned strength of 747 nursing posts, only 305 nurses are employed at present, resulting in an overwhelming patient load of 22 per nurse during shifts. Similarly, only 234 out of 318 sanctioned third grade posts and 94 out of 596 fourth grade posts are filled. An official from Rims, said: “The recruitment of medical and fourth grade staff is crucial as daily wage workers and contract workers fill many of these positions. The management has proposed the regularization of these workers, but is still not implementing it.”
