Cleric Arrested for Handling Cyber ​​Scam Funds | Lucknow News

Kanpur: A cleric and his aide were arrested on Saturday for receiving funds obtained from digital scams in his account while operating a madrassa.
The cleric fraudulently acquired the money in the form of charitable donations, kept some of it and sent the rest to cybercriminals. Received technical support from an engineer. The religious leader’s account revealed transactions worth several lakhs of rupees.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Central Dinesh Tripathi and Deputy Commissioner of Police (ACP) Colonelganj Tej Bahadur Singh told reporters that Javed Akhtar, who lives in Yateemkhana, Colonelganj, operated Madrassa Qasimil Uloom Foundation. He used the madrassa’s charity account to help cybercriminals across the country by accepting fraudulently obtained funds. He kept a 20-30% commission before forwarding the balance. Javed Akhtar distributed these funds in several accounts for cash withdrawal.
A Swaleh of Hiraman ka Purwa, Bekanganj provided technical expertise to manage these illicit transactions. A BTech graduate employed by a private firm, Swaleh joined the operation hoping for a quick rich. He later began assisting the religious leader with technical support.
Colonelganj police have detained both the persons and registered a case. Following their court appearance on Saturday night, they were remanded in custody. Authorities are making progress in uncovering the cyber crime network. The DCP revealed that the interrogation had revealed links to operations in Lucknow and Delhi. This group carries out digital fraud nationwide. A dedicated police team is investigating the network, identifying associates from Delhi, Lucknow and various other districts. Other members of the gang will be arrested soon.
According to the DCP, a businessman from Vadodara was a victim of digital fraud, losing around Rs 65 crore. About half of this amount (32 lei) was directed to a madrasa account belonging to cleric Javed Akhtar. Following the businessman’s complaint, the authorities froze cleric Javed Akhtar’s account and the Vadodara police issued him an online notice.
Concerned about the possible arrest, the clergy approached Kanpur Police commissioner’s office and IGRS. He claimed that cybercriminals deposited the money into his account under false pretenses of assistance, denying any involvement. However, police investigations found that the clergy met the cybercriminals in both Lucknow and Delhi. Scammers have obtained your SIM card to access your account.
Police later detained the cleric and his associate at the GIC ground in Chunniganj, where they were allegedly planning another cyber crime. Javed basically hails from Rajoura village in Darbhanga, Bihar.
