The Pixel’s notification rejection sync may soon be more versatile

Living with multiple devices, whether they’re phones, tablets, or any mix you can think of, is a bit of a double-edged sword. While having access to all that hardware can be very convenient, it can become the least bit annoying when we find ourselves moving between them and having to repeat the same tasks over and over, like keeping up with all the notifications . With Android 15The Pixel hardware got a handy new trick for managing notifications across multiple devices, and now we’re seeing evidence that it could soon evolve to become even more useful.

“Turn off notifications on Pixel devices” has arrived as a new notification option in Android 15. The feature works at the account level, and when enabled, closing a notification on a Pixel phone or tablet will also close it on all other currently connected Pixel devices to the same account.

It’s great for what it does, but there’s a small asterisk attached to Google’s implementation, and syncing notifications between all your devices. Pixel will only happen when those devices are online via Wi-Fi, not cellular data.

Looking at version 1.0.687093228_arm64-v8a_release_phone of the Google Device Connectivity Service app, we were able to discover code connected to a new toggle that appears to give users the option to disable this limitation and allow notifications to sync even over mobile networks.

At this point, this switch is not user-facing, and based on how it’s currently implemented, it’s clearly still a work in progress. That said, we don’t see any good reason why Google wouldn’t give users this option, even if there is a small impact on battery life.

At this point, it’s hard to say when Google might fully commit to this option and go live, but based on how simple it sounds, we’d be surprised to see a significant delay.
