Transgender woman beaten and robbed; she believes she was targeted because of her gender identity

Stephanie was the victim of a brutal robbery Nov. 9 at a gas station in the 16200 block of Imperial Valley in Greenspoint.

A black man, dressed in black, wearing white and yellow Jordan 1’s, chased her, beat her and stole her purse. The suspect was driving an early 2000s gold 4-door Impala.

Stephanie suffered a severe attack during a gas station robbery, which she believes was motivated by her transgender identity. The attacker left her with serious injuries, requiring surgery.

The suspect beat Stephanie so badly that he crushed her elbow, sending her to the hospital. Now he has metal plates in his arm.

“I felt like this was my last day to live,” she said.

Stephanie is transgender and says the man used several slurs at her, leading her to believe that was why she was targeted.

She is healing physically and emotionally while encouraging the community to stay aware.
