Kanpur: A thief disguised as a woman wearing ‘salwar suit’ broke into the residence of a businessman in Govind Nagar police station area.
During the investigation, the thief was identified as the contractor who was handling the construction work at the premises. The accused was arrested after analyzing more than 100 CCTV images.
DCP South Ankita Sharma gave details of the theft, which took place on November 18. Valuables worth Rs 15 lakh, including jewelery and cash, were stolen from the residence of a spare parts dealer Manish Goyal in Govind Nagar J Block.
Manish had gone to a wedding with his family. When he returned the next day at 4am, he found the first floor entrance locked.
Believing it to be a family problem, he went to Manish’s brother’s apartment on the second floor. The next morning they found an open window and, entering through it, found a damaged wardrobe. They found cash worth Rs 1,50,000 and jewelery worth Rs 15 lakh missing from the safe.
The DCP reported that analysis of surveillance footage showed a person in a salwar suit and a masked individual. Further examination of the footage revealed the thief’s face. Manish identified the thief as Satyam Yadav, his construction contractor.
Police verification of Satyam’s location and communications during the theft confirmed his involvement. On arrest, Satyam Yadav, a resident of Mudra Shahi village, Rura Kanpur Dehat, who currently resides in Bihari Purwa, Gujaini, confessed to the crime.
Following Satyam’s confession, the police also nabbed his accomplice, a student from Juhi Hari Colony, Kidwai Nagar. Authorities recovered the stolen money and gold ornaments from both suspects.
