Garret Dufty, named Environmental Outreach Program Coordinator…

Gwinnett Clean and Beautiful has named former Gwinnett County of Water Resources Outreach Specialist to lead the organization’s water projects.

Garret Dufty will serve as the nonprofit’s environmental outreach program coordinator. In the new role, Dufty will oversee the Adopt-a-Stream program, Stormwater Protectors, Great Gwinnett Wetlands and other water conservation initiatives. Dufty has been with Gwinnett County Government since 2019, holding positions in both the Parks and Recreation and Water Resources departments.

“We are so excited to welcome Garret to the Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful team,” said Schelly Marlatt, executive director for the eco-focused nonprofit. “We have had so much fun working with him over the past two years in his role with the Department of Water Resources. He is very capable – as evidenced by his recognition with the 2023 New Coach of the Year award from Georgia Adopt-A-Stream. But more than that – he truly loves nature and the community he serves. When he’s not facilitating an Adopt-A-Stream workshop, cleaning our WaterGoat’s nets, or helping the rest of our team at a cleanup or recycling event, don’t be surprised to see Garret hiking the trails of the new Harris. Greenway or bird watching at Harbins Park. This man doesn’t just talk. He goes on foot. He is a certified Master Herpetologist and Master Naturalist. He sets a fabulous example for others to follow.”

Dufty grew up in Jefferson City and holds a bachelor’s degree in political science. He also served with AmeriCorps Project Conserve in Asheville, North Carolina for a year.

Gwinnett County residents interested in meeting Dufty will be able to do so at all upcoming events scheduled for 2025. Adopt-A-Stream Workshop or volunteer for the first Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful event in 2025.
