Man arrested for assaulting 80-year-old man in grocery store parking lot

Authorities have arrested 57-year-old Anthony Ray Boyce in connection with the brutal attack on 80-year-old Earl Hollins. It happened Friday afternoon in the 1400 block of West FM 1960 in north Harris County.

According to court documents, Boyce hit Hollins in a parking spot at the Food Town grocery store.

Boyce was arrested and charged with aggravated assault – grievous bodily harm.

From aggravated robbery to assault

At first, the call to deputies went down as an aggravated robbery around 2 p.m. However, investigators quickly discovered that nothing was taken from the victim.

Boyce and Hollins were reportedly familiar with each other and were frequent visitors to the store, according to witnesses.

A sudden confrontation

Sgt. Jeff Thomas explained that the video footage showed no signs that a confrontation was about to take place. After the attack, Boyce left the scene in a maroon Ford F150 with maroon or white trim.

Condition of the victim

Hollins was transported from Houston Northwest Medical Center to Kingwood Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Authorities are still investigating what led to the altercation.
