Which? The best products of the year have been revealed – including a £169 smartphone and a microwave that doubles as a deep fryer

A £169 mobile phone has been named product of the year by Which?.

The consumer website also listed an electric car, washer fluid and air purifier in its list of 50 products, which it says it whittled down from 3,500 based on value, performance, efficiency and innovation.

The Samsung Galaxy A15 5G took top spot in the tech, kitchen and home rankings, coming in at just £169.

Which? said the smartphone represented good value and longevity, being the cheapest phone it tested that offers five years of security support updates.

The Volkswagen ID.7 electric car, which costs £51,550, is second on the list. It was the highest-scoring car of the year in tests conducted by Which? and was praised for its adaptive suspension and roominess.

Among the cheapest products on the list was Aldi’s Almat Triple Chamber Sachets, washing capsules priced at £3 for 20 in ninth place.

Testers said the capsules removed food stains easily, were great value and had a good sustainability score due to minimal use of ingredients known to be harmful to the environment.

One of the most unusual items on the list is a microwave oven that doubles as an air fryer.

The £195 Daewoo SDA2618GE came in at number 13 and was described as “quiet enough to use that you won’t bother anyone when you’re heating up a midnight snack”.

The £1,699 Framework 16 laptop was named 18th on the list, with experts describing it as “the most hi-tech Lego set you’ve ever seen”.

In 21st place in the ranking was the Nuna Pipa Urbn, a £300 car seat with a four-star safety rating in tests – weighing just 3kg.

Morrisons Nutmeg Home Fluted Toaster came in at number 30, with experts saying it made good toast and cost just £19.

And at 33 years old, it is one of the thousands of televisions that the consumer champion says it has tested in recent years – the LG OLED65C44LA. While it costs £1,999, which? said it was the highest-rated shared television in 2024.

Harry Rose, which one? magazine editor, said the value and quality of the winning smartphone made it one of the products on the year list “that should make everyone’s life easier”.

“There is fantastic value at the cheaper end of the smartphone market now, exemplified by our winner, which means buying great phones and avoiding expensive contracts by using SIM-only deals is a more realistic option for many more people he said. .
