A Detroit man was arrested after he crashed a stolen car into a home in Greater Lansing

EATON COUNTY, Mich. – A Detroit man was arrested early Thursday morning in Eaton County after allegedly stealing a car and then crashing it into a home.

Michigan State Police say two people were trying to steal an SUV from the lot of a CN Railroad Distribution Center in Windsor Township just after 3 a.m. on Dec. 12, 2024. The suspects got out of the SUV and ran away from the scene before police arrived.

As the military searched the area, they saw two Jeeps leaving. When the trooper attempted a traffic stop on one of the Jeeps, authorities said the Jeep’s lights went out and they sped off.

However, due to the icy conditions, the Jeep immediately crashed into a house on Oak Highway. The driver, a 24-year-old Detroit man, got out of the Jeep and ran into a nearby wooded area.

Police said the other Jeep was able to leave the area and the other suspect was not caught.

The Detroit man was found along I-69 near Davis Highway. Officials said he continued to try to run until troopers caught up with him and arrested him.

Following the arrest, state police learned that the Jeep he was driving had been stolen from the Detroit Police Department.

Detroit man faces charges of receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding, conspiracy, driving while license suspended, altering VIN with intent to mislead and resisting and obstructing.

The investigation is ongoing.
