Fire destroys two houses on Sheridan Avenue, firefighter injured

A fire broke out at 323 Sheridan Ave Thursday afternoon, spreading to the neighboring property at 325 Sheridan Ave, according to the Albany Fire Department.

Officials say the department was dispatched around 4:25 p.m. and arrived on scene two minutes later. A second alarm was raised at approximately 4:30 p.m., and the fire was brought under control by about 5:30 p.m.

Authorities say upon arrival, firefighters encountered a heavy fire in the cockloft area of ​​323 Sheridan Ave that had spread to the cockloft at 325 Sheridan Ave.

Officials reported that no residents were home at either structure at the time of the incident. No civilian injuries were reported, however, one firefighter suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The Albany Codes Department and City Engineer are currently assessing the stability and damage of both structures.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
