Kevin O’Leary plans to propose Trump on the US-Canada union

Canadian businessman and Shark tank television personality Kevin O’Leary told Fox Business that he was going to Mar-a-Lago to introduce the President-elect Donald Trump upon the US joining an economic union with Canada.

Recently, Trump floated the idea of annexing Canada in exchange for lowering their tariffs and also referred to the country’s prime minister Justin Trudeau as “governor” of the 51st state.

During an interview on Fox Business on Thursday, O’Leary said Trump should erase the borders between Canada and the US by creating an economic union between the two countries. O’Leary also noted that the economic merger should create a common currency and start a new “almost EU-like passport: for the US and Canada”.

The Canadian businessman then claimed that “half of Canadians are interested in the union” but don’t want Trudeau to negotiate the deal.

There are 41 million Canadians, practically the population of California, who are on the world’s largest amounts of all resources, including the all-important energy and water. Canadians, over the holidays, the last two days have been talking about it. They want to hear more. And so, you know, obviously there’s a lot of issues and more details. But what this could be is the beginning of an economic union.

Think of the power of combining the two economies, erasing the border between Canada and the United States, and putting all that resource to the northern borders, where China and Russia knock on the door. So sure give a common currency, set taxes everywhere, make trading everything two way, create a new passport, almost EU. I like this idea and at least half of Canadians are interested. The problem is that the government is now collapsing in Canada. No one wants Trudeau to negotiate this deal. I don’t want him to do it for me. So I go to Mar a Lago. I will begin the narrative. The 41 million Canadians, I think most of them would trust me in this business.

In recent weeks, Trump’s threats to impose steep tariffs on both Canada and Mexico have been met with anger in both countries. The premier of Ontario, Canada’s most populous province, attacked Trump in mid-December and vowed to completely cut off energy supplies to the US if Trump followed through on his threat.

“We’ll go all the way, depending on how far it goes. We’re going to go as far as to cut off their power, going down into Michigan, down into New York state and then into Wisconsin,” Ontario Premier. Doug Ford said the reporters. “I don’t want that to happen, but my No. 1 job is to protect Ontario, Ontarians and Canadians as a whole because we are the largest province.” Mexico and Canada are the two the biggest trading partners for the US – Canada being a major importer of key building materials and energy into the country.
