However, when Ariana asks Cooper for advice before signing the deal, he asks for a million instead of almost half a million. Moreover, he wants the same money available for all three families and not just for Ariana. When Rebecca raises her voice against him, he silences her by analyzing the costs of a potential lawsuit involving insurance companies, government bodies and environmental agencies. Without waiting for Rebecca to fight back, Nathan calls Monty Miller and tells him there is a request. As the businessman wants the settlement to be closed as soon as possible, he agrees to the amount with the NDA.

After the deal is closed, Cooper quits his job like a madman. He no longer wants to work for a company that tries to hurt the families of its workers who died in the line of duty. His sacrifice greatly moves Ariana, who admits that she has feelings for him. However, she admits that it is too soon for her to accept him as a partner, as her husband died only a few weeks ago. However, she wants him to live with her in a separate room. Despite the physical breakup they agree on, they end up kissing again.

The same is code for an intimate evening, as the father cannot even accept the possibility of his daughter having sex with anyone. When Ryder shows up to get Ainsley out, the landman warns the boy not to have any funny business with her. Even though the young man does not know what abstinence means, he is wise enough to nod whenever his girl’s father speaks.

Tommy also meets Cooper and Ariana. He asks what is going on between the two of them. The widow replies that whatever happens between them is “awkward” because several influential factors can change the nature of their relationship. She adds that they might live together for five decades or break up after a few days, depending on how they handle their love for each other and the guilt of maintaining a relationship so soon after Elvio’s death. His day ends with a meeting with Rebecca, who almost accuses him of offering his son a job so that he can kill his colleagues and date one of their widows. The speculation enrages the landman, who threatens the lawyer to leave his family alone.

The Texas National Guard lands in M-Tex’s oil field

Monty Miller suffers a heart attack after finding a way to fight back against Jimenez’s drug cartel. He meets with the governor of Texas and asks the latter to let the state’s National Guard train in his country. The businessman believes the presence of military force will instill fear in the minds of drug traffickers who threaten to damage his oil wells. Since its field is tens of thousands of acres, the soldiers will have plenty of room to march and test explosives. The governor gives the green light to the proposal because it doesn’t cost the state a dime.

After receiving the governor’s permission, Colonel Ivey and his band arrive at M-Tex’s oil field. Tommy explains the situation to the high-ranking official, who even promises to bring in helicopters and surveillance devices to help the oil company. The Landman is happy to listen to the officer, who vows to tackle the drug cartel if the dealers are determined to break into the property. The presence of the National Guard pays off soon enough, as a group of soldiers target a shipment of drugs in helicopters. The cartel loses not only its products, but also its crew members, marking the beginning of a potential armed conflict.
