US to close federal agencies and departments on January 9 to honor Jimmy Carter’s memory – World

WASHINGTON, December 31. /TASS/. US President Joe Biden has announced that all government agencies and departments will close on January 9 to honor the memory of the 39th US President Jimmy Carter.

“All executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government will be closed on January 9, 2025, out of respect for James Earl Carter, Jr., the thirty-ninth President of the United States,” the executive order, posted on the website, said White House.

Some agency offices, departments and facilities will continue to operate on Jan. 9 “for reasons of national security, defense, or other public necessity.”

Earlier, Biden announced a national day of mourning on January 9 for the death of former President Carter.

Jimmy Carter (full name James Earl Carter, Jr.), who served as President of the United States from 1977 to 1981, died at the age of 100 at his home in Georgia on December 29.
