Elon Musk spent his Christmas break going crazy online and in a German newspaper

The days between Christmas and New Year are an apathetic, liminal time. You can catch up with family, make your mind a sunless space with video games and TV, and eat all the leftover food from the holidays. Elon Musk, the richest man who ever lived and the father of at least 12 children, spends this time going crazy on the internet about visas and publishing an opinion piece in a German newspaper.

Where to start.

In the days before Christmas, a little war broke out among the MAGA faithful and tech billionaires who helped Trump win the election. The issue was H1-B Visas. You see, immigrant Elon Musk thinks Americans are lazy and entitled. To help it thrive, they want to bring in more highly skilled tech workers on H1-B visas.

“A culture that worships Cory from ‘Boy Meets World’ or Zach & Slater over Screech in ‘Saved by the Bell’ or ‘Stefan’ over Steve Urkel in ‘Family Matters’ will not produce the best engineers”, DOGE co-chair Ramaswamy he wrote in a Tweet on December 26one day most of us are so full of holiday meat we can’t move.

Ramaswamy and Musk then spent several days battling with their followers on X, the Everything app. Musk thrown around bans and recriminations eagerly in the days after Christmas, which I assume cut into his time with Path of Exile 2. Sad. A post the day after Christmas summary what had happened The post said Americans were stupid. Musk agreed to it, then deleted his agreement. He said that “odious and unrepentant racists” he should be kicked out of the Republic Party.

Good luck with that.

As Musk defended himself against the trolls he encouraged on the site he bought for $44 billion, the world he also learned from Adrian Dittmanna man many believe can be Musk.

Dittmann is a bluecheck X account that he likes to defend Musk. Dittmann’s account has exists since 2021and spent a lot of time fighting for the beaten billionaire. The pair first appeared together in a Twitter space back in 2023. They repeated the performance during the H1-B visa.

The thing is, Dittmann sounds and acts exactly like Elon Musk. The account appears to exist solely to inflate Musk’s ego and defend his various positions. When both are in the same virtual space, it is impossible to tell them apart. This has led to accusations that Dittmann is an alternate account of Musk, which indeed the estranged billionaire’s daughter credit.

Dittmann’s truth is impossible to know. This is either Musk running an alt account and boosting himself, or he’s a weirdo who loves Musk so much that he’s doing an impression, modeling his behavior on Musk and spending the holidays defending him online. Either possibility is too horrifying to contemplate in these strange and wandering days between Christmas and New Years.

Did you know that parliamentary elections are coming up in Germany? Musk knows. Germany’s government is in crisis, and the coalition that led it has collapsed. At the end of February, the Germans will decide the future of the country. Musk would like the future to be one hard right turn.

The billionaire courted a final controversy before the new year when he published an opinion piece in the Welt am Sonntag newspaper that supported the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. Musk said Germany was on the brink of “economic and cultural collapse” and that the AfD was the country’s “last glimmer of hope”.

AfD is a party that rumbles on the road One The Nazi Controversy every few weeks. It would also probably be good for Musk’s business interests abroad. That is why he wrote the editorial. Musk’s endorsement in the newspaper was so outrageous that the editor of Welt am Sonntag resigned in protest.

It’s impossible to know whether any of this will matter in February when Germany votes, but it does indicate that Musk is trying to flex his political muscle outside the United States. He first endorsed the AfD the day before Christmas. I wonder what he will do when he finds out about the hateful and unrepentant racists in the ranks of the AfD.

The richest man in the world entered 2025 with the same energy he had cultivated in 2024. While the rest of us enjoyed time with our families, we finished one last draft before seeing a Nosferatu matinee, or catching up with old friends, Musk was fighting people on the Internet. The holidays are hard for some of us. Musk’s solution seems to be to post through it.
