Macuata chiefs unite to invest $360,000 in education – FBC News

Chiefs of Macuata province have pledged a significant financial contribution of $360,000 to improve education, demonstrating their commitment to the academic success of their youth.

Tui Labasa, Ratu Jone Qomate, announced that the twelve provincial chiefs have collectively pledged to contribute $30,000 each, the funds set to cover all phases of education from pre-school to vocational training at the Nasoso Vocational Center .

Tui Labasa pointed out that the initiative reflects Vanua o Macuata’s dedication to addressing educational challenges, particularly declining performance in Fiji’s year 8 national examinations.

“Everybody talks about education. And especially about the entrance exam. About 6,000 of them. We are trying to identify how many of them are from Macuata. Yes, that’s what we’re going to do. The education committee for their son has just started.”

The funding will also support the establishment of an education committee to oversee the efficient use of resources, aligning efforts with the broader goals of Vanua o Macuata.

iTaukei Business Council Deputy Executive Director Josefa Toganivalu commended the chiefs and people of Macuata for prioritizing education.

“There are a number of reasons that we can say affected them. They are all unique in their own way and the challenges are best left to Vanua and also to the Fijian administration to resolve.”

This initiative signals a unified approach to education in Macuata, with the hope of reversing current trends and creating a brighter future for the province’s youth.
