Kankakee Deputy Interrupts Burglary in Progress, 2 Men Arrested – Local Shaw

KANKAKEE — A Kankakee County sheriff’s deputy was on routine patrol when he interrupted a burglary in progress early Tuesday morning.

Shortly before 3 a.m., a deputy observed a suspicious vehicle at a construction site and solar farm in the area of ​​4000 North Road and 5500 East Road, according to a news release from the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office.

Following the investigation, the deputy observed evidence consistent with a burglary and inconsistencies in the statements made by the suspect, according to the press release.

One of the burglary suspects initially walked away from officers in a side-by-side, which was later determined to be burglary, but was eventually apprehended by a Bourbonnaise police K9, police said.

Deputies arrested Sean A Denby, 33, of Kankakee, and Ryan M. Newberry, 45, of Momence, for the alleged theft and possession of burglary tools, in addition to of another charge to Newberry for the alleged crime. in possession of a stolen motor vehicle, police said.

Both Denby and Newberry were booked into the Jerome Combs Detention Center, where they await their initial detention hearings before a Kankakee County judge.

“While our detectives continue to investigate the incident, I want to thank all of the officers for their efforts, especially the sheriff’s deputy who initially located the burglary during a routine patrol,” said Sheriff Mike Downey.
